Company Profile

Haggis Makers since 1860McKean Foods have been satisfying the most discerning of Scottish palates  with their famed Haggis for over 140 years. The fourth generation haggis maker in his family, William Watt McKean has been the staunch protector of the McKean recipe, ensuring only the finest ingredients are sourced and used in the making of the  McKean Haggis. The mixing and blending process has remained unchanged throughout ~ "Bill" McKean insistent that the process of manufacturing  is every bit as important as the ingredients that go into it. Although officially "retired", Bill has been anything but(!) - overseeing as he has the construction of the new Cook, Chill and Pack facilities at the Company's factory at Balmore.

Long serving business partner responsible for Sales and Marketing, Peter Galloway Donald  ("PGD") is well known throughout the Food Industry in Scotland and beyond. His early days at McKeans were supposed to be temporary as he filled in time to help fund his training as an accountant at University. He enjoyed it so much that he decided to stay and forego the Accountancy profession and quite frankly - who can blame him!!  Traditional Scottish Fayre is in his blood being a direct descendant of the notorious Galloway baker's family in Falkirk ( more about that some other time!!).

Our  other "partner-in-crime" is  fifth generation haggis maker William Gordon Wallace. Gordon himself is no stranger to the traditional  values so important to Haggis-making. More than 150 years ago Gordon's ancestors moved from the village of Straiton in Ayrshire, Burn's country, and set up shop as retail pork butchers in Glasgow's Argyle Street,  becoming "friendly competition" to  McKean's  for over  a  century.  "Wallace's Sausages" became the principal diet for Glaswegians during the 1900's and members of each of Gordon's past generations have continued in the Scottish Pudding-making  tradition, having upheld the traditions of quality and consistency throughout.

The Haggis Tradition

Haggis Makers since 1860The McKean cooking process involves the simmering of the haggis in large open-top vats containing the stock, rich in flavour and absorbed by the natural casing of the Haggis, all elements which,  when coupled with the carefully guarded blended recipe of Herbs and Spices,  lift the McKean Haggis to a higher plain than  it's younger pretenders.

Here-in you will find a plethora of the finest  Haggis products - 140 years in the making - known affectionately as "The McKean Family of Haggis" each of which have differing applications. Each product page has full details on the product to help you decide the best, most suitable product for your own use. If you have any problems finding your way round our Website or have any questions not answered within, please let us know by using our Feedback page. next
